The House of Representatives Committee on Interior in its report laid before the House on Tuesday has recommended immediate dismissal of SIP Idaa Odeh, the Prisons officer that allegedly assaulted Hon. Juan Onyemaechi Mrakpor on Wednesday last week.
The committee also recommended that Corporal Esther Hassan, ASP Sunday Akoh of the Nigeria Police Force and Adewale Oyediran of the Department of State Services (DSS) should be disciplined and redeployed from the National Assembly.
The Committee also recommended that the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act should be amended as a matter of urgency to the effect that only the President, Vice President and the Chief Justice of Nigeria or a visiting President can come into National Assembly premises with a moderate convoy and penalties should be provided for offenders.
For his failure to show up at the public hearing held last Monday, the report recommended that Umar Shehu Kangiwa, Deputy Comptroller General of Prisons in charge of Finance and Admin, be arrested and tried for violating Section 11 of Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act by the Attorney General of the Federation.
In a related development, a group under the aegis of Anioma Youth Council, stormed the National Assembly on Tuesday demanding for the sack of Prisons boss, Mr. Peter Ezenwa Ekpendu, by the Federal Government.
In a statement signed by its president Raymond Chukwudiben Obusin, the group said the National Assembly must rise up and protect its own the same way they have shown solidarity with members in the past.
