Read Adele’s Perfect Response to Beyoncé’s Lemonade

“I'm not late on this, I’ve just been speechless.”

lasst year, Adele pledged her allegiance to Beyoncé in a radio interview, telling audiences everywhere that she was firmly planted on Team “Queen Bey to the day I die.” So when Beyoncé unveiled Lemonade less than two weeks ago, we wondered how Adele—outspoken Beyoncé mega-fan, powerhouse chanteuse, and possibly the only performer on this planet who even qualifies as a peer—would react. Would she draw the shades, dim the lights, and listen to Beyoncé blow the lid off her strained marriage in awed silence—playing the album on repeat for a week straight? Would she host a casual listening party with friends Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence? Would she power up the Bey signal to alert the Lemonade mastermind that she approved? (That’s how the superstars communicate with each other, right?) Or would she feel so immediately inspired by the HBO special that she would halt all other activities to pen her own response album? Finally, on Tuesday, Adele broke her silence about Bey’s headline-grabbing album, revealing why she’s been so slow to speak out.
In an Instagram posted on Tuesday about Lemonade, Adele revealed, “I’m not late on this I’ve just been speechless. Beyoncé is the most inspiring person I’ve ever had the pleasure of worshipping. Her talent, beauty, grace and work ethic are all in a league of their own. I appreciate you so much! Thank god for Beyoncé X”
Adele completed her shout-out with a gorgeous black-and-white photo showing Adele literally bowing down next to a poster of the superstar.
Now if only Beyoncé would return the public display of affection on her own social-media feeds. (We’ll be waiting, Bey.)
Last year, a rumor circulated that Adele had actually turned down a request from Bey to record a duet together. Adele called into a local radio station to clear up the vicious lie, tellingZane Lowe, “I would never disrespect her like that.”
She continued, “I’m such a fan, oh my God!” Eventually, she added, “Obviously, Queen Bey to the day I die.”
During another interview, with Time, Adele clarified, “Whoever started that rumor must have been having a laugh because anyone who knows me knows that my main priority in life outside of my child is Beyoncé.”
Now how about that duet already!
