Mom who poisoned, then drowned her two kids sentenced to 8 years in prison

A former New York City teacher who laced her two children’s grape juice with windshield wiper fluid before drowning them has been jailed for eight years.

Lisette Bamenga was convicted in April of manslaughter in a nonjury trial. Her attorney says she suffered from postpartum depression. Investigators say Bamenga acted in a jealous rage after learning her boyfriend had fathered a child with another woman.
Judge Martin Marcus says it was the most difficult sentencing he’s done during his 27 years on the bench. He gave her eight years each on two counts of manslaughter, but the sentences will be concurrent.

Bamenga drowned 4-month-old Violet and 4-year-old Trevor in the bathtub in July 2012. She also turned on the gas stove and slit her wrists.

Grey love, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Sends Selfie to her children

Uzodimman Iweala took to his Instagram to share a cuty grey hairs selfie which their parents, former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Dr. Ikemba Iweala sent to him and his siblings.

"My mother sent this to me and my siblings the other day in an email with the title "grey love." She and my father took a selfie on the deck at the house we grew up in, a house that saw four kids thunder across its floors and up and down its steps, and countless Christmases, and so many celebrations. There were also tragedies and tears. Once a dog lived in this house and they loved him a lot too. My parents sacrificed so much for us to have the opportunity that we enjoy. Many people with kids devote so much of their energy to the children and to working to support those children, often putting their own relationship second. These children bring them joy and also trouble. We reward them with our successes and keep them ever preoccupied with our safety and wellbeing long after we have left the havens they have built or tried to build for us. My parents are no different. But it is also amazing to see how when the house has gone quiet and the noise has subsided, they can turn to each other after 37 years of marriage and amuse themselves with a morning of taking silly selfies that amuse their now grown children. It makes me happy."

Amaechi Accused Of Stealing £500million, dub Buhari ATM - Dailymail Uk

Amaechi the apc ATM
  • Muhammadu Buhari seen by some as leading the battle against corruption
  • But worrying allegations swirl around one of Nigerian leader's close allies
  • Rotimi Amaechi accused of misappropriating £338m commission probing sale of state assets
  • Also accused of diverting £140m of state funds into Buhari’s presidential campaign
When David Cameron was caught on camera last week before an anti-corruption summit describing Nigeria as ‘fantastically corrupt’, the African state’s president rallied to the Prime Minister’s defence by agreeing with him.
But although Muhammadu Buhari is seen by some as leading the battle against corruption, worrying allegations swirl around one of his close allies.
Rotimi Amaechi, who travelled with the president to the summit, is Nigeria’s transport minister and is said to have bankrolled Buhari’s presidential campaign.

In the Nigerian press he has been dubbed ‘ATM’ – the American term for cash machine – because of his ability to produce vast sums of money at short notice.
He remains in his post despite being accused of misappropriating £338million by a commission investigating the sale of state assets.
Some of that money is likely to have come from UK taxpayers, who gave the country £1billion in aid over five years to 2014, including £248million in 2014 alone.
Separately, Amaechi is accused of diverting £140million of state funds into Buhari’s presidential campaign, with reports he paid for media, consultants and private jets.

A leaked draft budget for 2016 showed the Nigerian government earmarked £16million for the refurbishment and maintenance of the president’s official residence, Aso Rock Guest House, in the capital Abuja

The allegations come as the president stands accused of enjoying a lavish lifestyle while many millions suffer in poverty.
A leaked draft budget for 2016 showed the Nigerian government earmarked £16million for the refurbishment and maintenance of the president’s official residence, Aso Rock Guest House, in the capital Abuja.
There was also a request for £13million for building a VIP wing at a hospital used by families of the president and his ministerial team.
Mr Amaechi has denied the allegations against him.

Nigerian man nabbed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with drugs hidden in ceremic horse sculptures

A Nigerian man was on Thursday, May 12 arrested with RM2mil worth of drugs hidden in seven horse statuettes. The 28-year-old was picked up at about 3pm at an apartment in Taman Prima Tropika, Seri Kembangan by narcotics and Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group officers.

Bukit Aman Narcotics CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said 12.1kg of syabu (Methamphetamine) were found in 28 packets hidden in the horse statuettes. He said the success came from intelligence gathered by the department and police's Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group.

"Following information gathered by our officers, police carried out an operation at the Sria Permai apartment in Bandar Putra  Permai about 3pm on Thursday and nabbed a Nigerian man. The suspect, aged 28, was caught while he was unloading boxes containing the horse replicas which, when checked, contained four packets of drugs each inside. Tests conducted confirmed that the drugs were methamphetamine," he told reporters during a press conference at the department's office in Bukit Aman, today.

The drugs were smuggled from China through a shipping cargo services. Comm Mokhtar said the man, who tested negative for drug use and has a valid passport, has been travelling in and out of Malaysia since 2014.
"We believe that he is a member of a Nigerian syndicate that has been bringing in drugs via sea cargo for local consumption and export to Western countries.

"These syndicates have in the past smuggled in drugs stored in water filters, women handbags, ink cartridges and portable air conditioners into the country. If these "horses" had been released to the public, the drugs would have been made accessible to about 600,000 users.

"Don't take the authorities for a ride," warned Comm Mokhta.
The packets of the drug were cemented into the statuettes to avoid detection at immigration and security checkpoints.

The Nigerian man is being remanded for 14 days to facilitate investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Moktar sad between Jan 1 and May 12, the department arrested a total of 97 Africans who were involved in drug- smuggling activities.

Nnamdi Kanu Releases Poem From Detention

The leader of the Indigenous
People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu on
Thursday, May 12, released a poem from Kuje
Prison in Abuja. The letter which was sent by
IPOB to NAIJ.com was said to have been released
through a lawyer representing Kanu. Sit back,
relax and enjoy yourself while you read through
Kanu’s poem below.

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra,
Nnamdi Kanu

I am Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of Indigenous
people of Biafra
and also the director of radio Biafra.
I have restored Biafra without a gunshot,
I have destroyed Nigeria with truth and
I have conquered Nigeria
with Chiukwuokikeabiama.
They waited for me to bomb and shoot,
but i refused to use metallic bullet and
atomic bombs,

I only used intellectual bullets and bombs and I
have
flawlessly won the war.
I stood just ordinary radio station and propagated
the gospel of Chukwuokikeabiama,
the word of God is power and that power have
destroyed Nigeria and restored Biafra.
I observed freedom of speech and fearlessly
preached truth,

I am fearless even before death because am
prophesy of over
If God is not man then his prophesy shall come to
pass and those that
stand against God will know Chiukwuokikeabiama
is creation.
I have lawfully followed stipulated procedures for
self-determination and have never
been involved in any form of violence or crime, I
have always
told you Biafrans to be disciplined and law-abiding
and
you have made me proud.

I am grateful that we are whiter than white and
whiter than snow.
We have no dishonour neither do we have any
spot, they have killed us mercilessly
and we have never killed back yet they arrested
us and tried to break us to betray Biafra.
They arrested me for saying the truth, nothing
but the truth.
They arrested me for demanding Biafra,
they arrested me for embracing freedom of
speech.

They conspired and arrested me for being lawful
and demanding attention.
They arrested me because peace is prohibited
in Nigeria; they arrested me
because dialogue is impossible in Nigeria.
They arrested me because I refused to take
up arms, they arrested me because
I defeated them intellectually.
When a man is defeated by reason, he sought to
discharge
his frustration on justice.
I am a prisoner of
conscience and I am
sure the world still have conscience.

I am Nnamdi Kanu, I have chosen death, I shall
die for
Biafra and let my death give my generation a
better life, let my
death be a guarantee for a better future, let my
death be
your smile and let my death end your
marginalization, subjugation, slavery and tears.

I am Nnamdi Kanu the lion that chose death over
the abuse of
his people. I instead die than renounce Biafra,
give me Biafra or kill me is where I stand.
I have been arrested for nothing, I am a prisoner
of conscience,
they are here to break me, to make me renounce
Biafra but they don’t know me, they don’t know
Biafra is my
religion and they don’t know renouncing Biafra is
a death
sentence, is like committing suicide.

In their widest dream shall I commit suicide and
I assure them that days of
reckoning will come, for Chiukwuokikeabiama
shall
avenge the death of His children.
I have taken an oath with the name of God that I
shall never
betray or give up Biafra because I knew this day
will come.

I am physically and psychologically prepared
for this period.
I took the oath and staked my family,
my generations and everything I am,
and so giving up Biafra in any condition is
impossible, even at gun point, I will only
accept my inevitable death than renounce Biafra.

I have been arrested before but this time is more
severe, the
harder the price is the closer the Kingdom of
God, even
Yawehesua prayed that only if this cup will pass
over him.
They came with every tactics they know to
deceive me into
signing off Biafra, they promised me freedom,
heaven
and earth, but I told devil to get behind me for
the Kingdom of
God worth nothing man can offer.

I am more intelligent than them and I will defeat
them to a
point nothing will be left to fight for, Biafra will
be and it has come to stay.
I appeared in the court on 19th Feb 2016, in the
face of this
persecution to coerce me into giving up Biafra, I
wore a clean
white cloth and tagged Biafran flag under the
pocket of my
white lace.

I tagged the flag there because that is where life
is and this is to tell you that Biafra is why i
breathe.
I will never ever disappoint you and will die for
Biafra to come.
The Biafran flag badge tagged on my white lace is
to remind
the world that I am resolute and shall never in
this life accept their gold to sale Biafra.

The world has no option except giving me Biafra
and
everything in Nigeria shall be at risk if anything
happens to me.
Biafrans love me and together we have chosen
death or give
us Biafra, should anything happen to me then
my command remains.
Meanwhile, I have followed you great Biafrans
and I must
confess that I am satisfied, you have made me
proud and my
message to you all is to stay strong, remain
resolute and
focused.

We must not give up, we should continue
pushing strong, we should continue our
peaceful protest because it is frustrating Nigerian
government and we must keep spreading the
message of
Biafra and at the end we shall win.

Niger Delta Avengers: More Oil Offline in Nigeria as Exxon Declares Force Majeure

In the midst of a militant resurgence in the Niger Delta and a two-week ultimatum for oil companies to shut down operations, Exxon Mobil has reportedly declared force majeure on Qua Iboe crude after an accident the company said was not related to militant attacks.
On Thursday, Exxon said a subsea pipeline linking to Qua Iboe was damaged by a drilling rig. Then, early on Friday, unnamed traders cited by both Bloomberg and Reuters claimed that Exxon had declared force majeure on Qua Iboe crude deliveries.
Qua Iboe is Nigeria's largest crude stream. May should have seen some 337,000 barrels per day of Qua Iboe exported this month, according to Reuters.
Exxon has not independently confirmed these reports.
This latest incident adds to the growing amount of crude already offline in Nigeria due to the revival of Niger Delta militancy targeting the oil sector.
So far, according to Bloomberg, attacks have cut output by 600,000-1.4 million barrels per day.
On Wednesday, Royal Dutch Shell declared force majeure on its exports of Bonny Light crude. Shell has been forced to evacuate staff from its Eja OML 79 production facility.
On Monday, Nigerian officials said that Chevron had begun to evacuate staff from its facilities in the Niger Delta follow attacks on its assets. Several Chevron facilities, such as a platform and oil flow station, were attacked by militants last week.
On Thursday, militants vowed to attack Chevron again as the company attempts to repair damage.
Also on Thursday, the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), the group behind the string of attacks, issued a threat to all oil companies in the region to shut down and leave or face stepped up attacks.

As expected, president Buhari visits Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby

President Buhari who is in London, is presently on a visit to the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby. The Archbishop was the one who defended Nigeria when David Cameron made the statement that Nigeria is a fantastically corrupt country.
