We Will Poison Our Water, Fayose Threatens Fulani Herdsmen

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, on Tuesday, warned marauding herdsmen that have sent many Nigerians to their untimely graves in parts of the country to steer clear of his state or otherwise risk a greater danger for their cattle.
He said failure on their part to heed the warning would lead to the people of the state poisoning the source of water by the herdsmen for the cattle.
Fayose stated this on Tuesday, while speaking on the topic: “Journalism and Politics; two sides of a coin,” at the World Press Freedom Day organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, held at the Dapo Aderogba hall, Iyaganku, Ibadan.
Fayose said the time had come for Nigerians to defend themselves in the face of unwarranted attacks and killings by suspected herdsmen across the country.
Citing the carnage carried out by them in Benue and Enugu states, the governor said Boko Haram appeared to have changed its identity to herdsmen, unleashing terror on innocent citizens of the country,
He said he had instructed his people to poison water with a particular brand of chemical used against fungal attacks in the event of any herdsmen attack in Ekiti.
“It seems Boko Haram has changed identity to herdsmen now. You as journalists must speak out, the killings are under reported. Is it about the mass burial in Kaduna State, the Agatu saga or the recent killing which happened on Monday? Ask questions,” he said.
On his criticism of President Muhammed Buhari, Fayose said he had nothing against the personality of the president, but that the world democracy did not live on old leaders again.
Fayose said it was wrong for the president to believe he could use the panacea he adopted to tackle national problems over 30 years ago as head of state to solve current national challenges.
“President Buhari is too old to rule this country and that is why there is problem in this country now. He is like my grandfather. Nigeria should not produce any president that is over 60 years.
“World democracy don’t parade octogenarians again. Young people should rise up to challenge the older generation. Maybe that is why there is a law that a pilot should not fly an aircraft after 65 years of age,” he said.
Fayose advised journalists in the country to hold politicians accountable for their deeds and character while in office, in order to save the country from going down.
“You are the last hope of common man. When journalists support looters, there is confusion of vision. Journalists should shy away from it. Bad politicians should be brought to justice. Don’t write about issues you don’t know. Don’t rely on what a politician told you of his supposed enemy and don’t inherit his enemies. Journalists must help bring corrupt politicians to justice.
“When politicians are going wrong, let them feel the heat first from you. Most politicians are using journalists in Nigeria for their dirty jobs and they are supporting wicked politicians. Journalists in Nigeria always shy away from the truth because they are self-centred and greedy. As a journalist, you need to discharge your duty without fear or favour.

Lai Mohammed: A Masquerade Can Create Jobs For 1,000 Men

Lai Mohammed, minister of information and culture, says dressing masquerades could create a thousand jobs per week for Nigerian men.

Speaking at the sectoral debate of the federal house of representative in Abuja on Tuesday, Mohammed said most states in Nigeria have one festival or the other.

“Most states today have more than one festival a year, but the packaging and lack of capacity has not enabled them to make the most out of these festivals,” he said.

“There’s a particular masquerade in the south east, it takes 100 people to dress him, another 100 people to UnCloth him.

“If this masquerade is well-packaged, it can provide employment in one week for more than 1000 young men. These are some of the untapped potentials.”

Mohammed explained that Nigeria has the oldest forest in the world in terms of biodiversity for tourists to visit, but tourists are discouraged by bribing and insecurity in the country.

“I worked in the airport for 10 years, and I know that if you want your passport stamped as a foreigner, you slip $100 into your passport. No tourist would come back to a country where he has to bribe immigration to enter.

“No tourist would come to a country where, when he leaves immigration, he enters a ‘one-chance’ taxi or ‘one-chance’ bus. It’s a holistic problem and these are all contained in the national tourism master plan, which I would make available to the house.

“We must make a difference between tourist sites and tourist attractions; what we have in Nigeria are tourist sites. They are not tourist attractions.

“You need infrastructure to convert a tourist site to a tourist attraction. If you don’t have infrastructure, it would always remain a tourist site,

“In Cross Rivers reserve park, Nigeria has the oldest forest in the whole world. It is the oldest in terms of biodiversity, and we have this very rare, white-mane gorilla in that area, but because my people in Cross River have decided to turn them to bush meat, they have now escaped.”

Predictions for Mobile Technology in 2016

What to expect from 2016? First let's revisit some of the highlights of 2015. Some say that 2015 was a bit of a disappointment in terms of mobile technology, nothing really interesting debuted during the year. That might be true if looking only on all the new smartphones, no new embedded sensors introduced during the year - except Apple's 3D Touch display a first step in tactile mobile experiences to be further explored in 2016. During 2015 the number of IoT products and gadgets that utilizes our smartphones as digital hubs have increased heavily, in some cases like the Apple's HomeKit even uses a media center as the digital hub of your home - i.e. existing hardware gets increased functionality and allows for a lower investment threshold for new technology in our homes. The smart home devices have been around for a few years now, but during 2015 the number of products increased heavily and they also became a bit more user friendly.   Philips launched app-based ultrasound, their product Lumify makes ultrasound mobile and available almost anywhere. This gadget is an excellent example on how our smart devices can act as an extended UI (user interface) to our gadgets - the result is not only more portable devices, but cheaper devices since not all devices have to incorporate the full-fledged graphics capabilities. Another benefit is that additional computing power can be added to the system and creating a small distributed computing system. The same goes for the steadily growing smart watch segment, they continue to extend and add functionality to your smart device.   Another interesting advancement that I personally have been waiting for was introduced by Microsoft last year, Continuum. The smartphone becomes your only device, no longer just mobile first - it's now mobile only. Another device on the same theme is Solu, a coaster-sized cloud-based computer that fits in your pocket. We still need a little more processing power to replace our laptop with a smartphone. The new generation tablets are also starting to replace our laptops, or at least making more difficult for us to make a choice between a new laptop or a new tablet. Imagine if laptops could be replaced by small portable screens, dumb tablets, extending your smartphone - the one device to do it all.   For 2016 I expect to see even more dynamic, data-driven mobile apps incorporating sensor information and tactile objects - maybe even as far as odor smell. It will probably be the year when we see virtual reality applications take-off - Oculus Rift will be available for customers during Q1 2016, there's Google Cardboard allowing you to fold your own VR goggles and get going. What exciting applications will we see during 2016 that utilizes VR? To take advantage of the technology one might have to buy a new powerful desktop computer, a segment of the PC market that has seen a steady decrease over the last years.   A few things are clear about what 2016 will bring us in terms of technology, IoT will continue to grow and UX (user experience) will still be in focus driving a lot of the innovation within mobile technology.

15 BEST TRAVEL DESTINATIONS

 1. Bosnia & Herzegovina

Earlier this year WOW gave you 10 reasons to visit Bosnia & Herzegovina and the post went absolutely viral on social media. Why? A picture tells a thousand words… and Bosnia & Herzegovina is one of the most picturesque countries off the beaten path. Fortunately it is still flying very much under the radar – making now the perfect time to visit (but be sure to be quick!).

2. Ireland

The land of green pastures and torrential rain… Ireland really lives up to its’ cliche in the best possible way. But what is still surprising to most who visit Ireland is the unparalleled natural beauty to be discovered here. Added with some of the friendliest people in the universe and you have yourself one of the world’s most enjoyable countries to visit. Still not convinced by the above photo? Here’s 8 more places you should visit in Ireland.

3. Patagonia, Chile

Wondering what’s at the end of the world? Hiking the W trek in Patagonia (pictured above) is one of the biggest trophies you can have on your travel wall of fame. Be sure to consider an off-season visit for the most grounding experience – no one wants to walk behind trails of tourists in the wilderness.

4. Belgrade, Serbia

Surprised to see the Serbian capital make the list? We were, too. But Belgrade is one of Europe’s most underrated cities, particularly in summer. Tourism is still fairly minimal in Serbia, but there’s so much to discover. If you get off the beaten path and visit the road less travelled in Europe, you surely won’t be disappointed. Spend hours in line for the Eiffel Tower view? That’s less a guarantee. Read more: Quick Tips for a weekend in Belgrade.

5. Tasmania, Australia

Tasmania – or simply “Tassie” to the locals – has had its’ fair share of publicity these past couple of years, after Hobart was declared Lonely Planet’s best city to visit in 2014 and Australia’s only mention for best regions to visit in 2015. But it truly comes at no shock. Tasmania has the world’s cleanest air, friendly locals, untouched wilderness, some of the world’s best hiking trails, fresh produce and so much more. If there’s one place you simply must visit in Oceania in 2015, it’s Tassie.

6. Oman

Oman is quickly coming out of the shadows as one of the most intriguing destinations to visit in 2015. If you want to experience the Middle East in all its authenticity, culture and traditions – Oman is one of the safest countries you can do so.

7. The Philippines

Pristine waters and a paradise unlike any other – the Philippines has long been a WOW “must visit ASAP” destination. Fingers crossed in 2015 I will check this stunning country off my travel list and meet some readers whilst at it!

8. New Zealand

Many (if not most) people you meet on your travels will regard New Zealand as their #1 dream destination. Geographically isolated (much like Australia) and with relatively untouched wilderness, it’s not hard to see why. Lord of the Rings may have (definitely) also had a significant impact on the increased interest. But years on from the trilogy and subsequent The Hobbit films, NZ remains a top pick for travellers heading into 2015.

9. Nicaragua

Move over Costa Rica – there’s a new hot spot to visit in Central America in 2015. Nicaragua is quickly becoming Central America’s must visit destination, with so much to offer long and short term travellers. If you plan on sticking around for a while and engaging in some slower travel, this is the perfect place to do so. Extremely affordable and now attracting many solo travellers from around the world, this is a great budget option for 2015.

10. Morocco

Whether you’re hunting for magic carpets through the Souks in Marrakech or wondering the old streets of Fez, there’s so much to discover in Morocco. You want culture? tick. Experiences unlike anywhere else? tick. Friendly Moroccans? tick. Tourism in Morocco has sky rocketed in recent years, so be sure to jump on the bandwagon before it’s too late. Morocco is here to stay as one of the world’s most intriguing countries for travellers.

11. Atacama Desert, Chile

The Atacama Desert will leave you in awe – and no, it won’t be anything near what you expect. Earlier this year it even snowed… yes…. snowed… in the desert! This is the world’s driest desert, home to cactus’, salt flats, geysers (pictured above) and so much more to be discovered.

12. South African Safari

If there’s one travel experience that trumps them all, it’s a safari. South Africa is really embracing tourism and welcoming visitors from all over the world to their unique country for some of the best wildlife watching in Africa. Its’ neighbours too have amazing wildlife safaris on offer, but rest assured you will have a strong chance of seeing the Big 5 in South Africa!

13. Turkey

Whether you’re rummaging through the souks and spice markets in Istanbul, drifting through the air over Cappadocia in a hot air balloon or sun tanning on one of the many beaches, Turkey was a hotspot in 2014 and will continue to be for 2015.

14. Madagascar

If you really want to get off the beaten path and experience something truly unique, consider a trip to Madagascar. If the film is any indication of how many species of wildlife you can encounter here, you’re in for a real treat!

15. Cuba

Finally — Cuba. Whether you’re off to Trinidad (pictured), Havana, or touring around the country on an arranged group tour, there really is so much to see in Cuba. Right now is the time to visit, whilst Cuba still feels like stepping into a time warp. Modernisation is bound to hit the shores of Cuba sooner or later, so be sure to chuck it on the top of your list (if you can, of course – ye Americans can still travel to Cuba, but will need to do so with a pre-arranged group tour).

I’ve ordered security agencies to deal decisively with rampaging herdsmen – Buhari

Against the background of reports of continued attacks on communities across the country by armed herdsmen, President Muhammadu Buhari late Monday in Abuja restated his administration’s resolve to deal decisively and expeditiously with the matter.
Speaking at a meeting with members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, President Buhari confirmed that heads of national security agencies have been ordered to take all necessary action to apprehend and expose those behind the heinous attacks.
The Bishops were led by Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, the Archbishop of Jos.
“We are determined to secure all Nigerians and I have told the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies, in very strong terms, to deal decisively with the attackers,” the president said, according to a statement signed by spokesperson, Femi Adesina.
President Buhari expressed his condolences to the Catholic Bishop of Enugu, the people of Ukpabi Nimbo and all other communities that have suffered fatalities and other losses from the recent attacks.
Speaking on other national issues, the president assured the Bishops that he was acting with deliberation and moving methodically to implement his change agenda for the good of the country.
“We need to rebuild our institutions methodically, we need to change the way we do things.
“In the last 10 years, crude oil sold for more than $100 per barrel, but Nigeria did not save.  That is why we have found ourselves where we are today,” the president said.
The president assured the bishops that his administration was working very hard to fulfill all the promises it had made to Nigerians, adding that his greatest motivating factor now is the desire to bring positive change to Nigeria.
On behalf of the bishops, Most Rev. Kaigama expressed the solidarity of the CBCN with the president.
“We are willing to collaborate with you and with your administration, in which we see hope for a greater Nigeria,” he told the president.
The bishops pledged continued prayers for Nigeria and the government, expressing their conviction that current hardships are temporary, and Nigeria will soon overcome its present difficulties.

Tupac Shakur's mother, Afeni Shakur, dies at age 69

MARIN COUNTY, CA.

The mother of legendary rapper Tupac Shakur, Afeni Shakur, has died at the age of 69yrs.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Department in California confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that Shakur died late Monday night.
Deputies responded to a report of possible cardiac arrest at 9:34 p.m. at Afeni's home in Sausalto, the sheriff’s office said. She was taken to a local hospital, where she died at 10:28 p.m, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

Afeni, opened the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation and the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts in Stone Mountain in 1997 and resided in the area.
The center, which closed recently, offered training to young people in the arts in Atlanta.
A Tupac Shakur biopic, called '"All Eyez On Me" was being filmed in Atlanta earlier this year. Danai Gurira, from the "Walking Dead" was reportedly playing Afeni in the film.
Tupac Shakur, who died in 1996 at the age of 25, rose to international fame and infamy during the first half of the 1990s. His rap lyrics and the characters he played in popular films ranged from incredibly violent and crass to soft-spoken and introspective.
Shakur achieved record-breaking album sales but also had volatile run-ins with police. He survived a 1994 shooting in the lobby of a Manhattan studio, but was killed two years later in a still-unsolved Las Vegas drive-by shooting.

Congolese Minister Caught Masturbating In His Office (Photos)

Wonders will never cease! The kind of things we see or hear about are a true indication that the world is soon coming to an end. A video of a Congolese minister for Posts Telecommunications; Enock Ruberangaba Sebineza who was caught on camera stroking the proverbial monkey or rather masturbating has gone viral.

In the four minutes and 27 seconds video, Mr Enock is seen unzipping his trousers and what follows, only God knows. After he is done, he uses a white piece of cloth to wipe the cum and throws it in a dustbin and resumes work. He actually recorded the session himself proudly, no information as to how it got to the public. The video looked more like he was doing it for a lady on webcam, as he blew a kiss into the camera at a point in the video.

Jesus take the wheels! According to reports, President Kabila and fired Mr. Enock when the leaked video went viral, but we are yet to see his official statement on the sacking.

idoma group faults northern govs for defending herdsmen.

MAKURDI—A pan-Idoma group, the Opiatoha K’Idoma has faulted the position of the Northern governors on the activities of Fulani herdsmen in parts of the country, saying that the governors tended to exonerate the herdsmen from the recent massacre of hundreds of persons in Agatu local government area of Benue State.

The group cautioned that statements on a sensitive issue like the mindless killing of innocent Nigerians by the herdsmen should be handled with utmost care not to aggravate the already tense situation in parts of the country.

Speaking to Vanguard in Makurdi, the Secretary General of the group, Chief Adoka Adaji maintained that the herdsmen, who masterminded the mass killings were criminals and should be treated as such. According to him,”anyone or group of persons who engage in the wanton destruction of lives and properties of innocent and defenceless Nigerians like the Fulani herdsmen are at present perpetrating across the country, ought to be treated as criminals. “You don’t visit the home of another and unleashe mayhem on the people. “Fulani herdsmen cannot be defended or exonerated in this matter. Anybody exonerating them of the mass killings that we are all witnessing in parts of the country is not helping the situation.” “This not the time to apportion blames even though the herdsmen are also trying to put up a defense, we must all, as a matter of priority, seek for ways of bring the crisis to an end before it snowballs into something else.” “Though the Benue state Acting Governor, Benson Abounu has come out to debunk claims that the Northern Governors in their last meeting tried to shield the herdsmen from blame we urge the federal government to take decisive steps to end these killings.

Anambra Monitors Fulani Herdsmen With Helicopter

The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has launched a helicopter for aerial surveillance of the activities of herdsmen in the state.

The governor, who stated this during the Workers’ Day celebration in Awka, the state capital, assured the people of the state that his administration had all it would take to prevent any attack by the herders.

Obiano said that before the growing menace of the Fulani herdsmen in the country, he had set up a special committee to foster peace between farmers and the cattle grazers in the state.

The committee, the governor noted, was made up of the leaders of the Hausa-Fulani community in the state, government officials, security agents and some representatives of agrarian communities across the state.

Obiano said, “This committee has made the herdsmen to pay compensation to communities whose crops were destroyed by their cattle seven times in the past. And we have also paid compensation to the herdsmen when one community breached the peace against them. That is the nature of our engagement with them in Anambra State.”

He warned that his administration would deal ruthlessly with the herdsmen should they become “needlessly hostile against their host communities.”

Obiano added, “There is routine helicopter surveillance across the borders of the state to ensure that any suspicious gathering of people(herdsmen) or curious movements across the borders are quickly picked up and analysed by security experts.”

The governor commended Anambra workers for their support to his administration, saying “if Willie is working, then the workers are also working.”

He restated his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare.

Obiano added that the state government would consider a salary increase for workers once there was an increase in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Anambra State chapter, Jerry Nnubia, had commended Obiano for putting up an excellent performance since he took over two years ago.

Meanwhile, as the various pressure groups in the southern part of the country threaten to move Fulani herdsmen from their communities because of recent killings in Enugu and other southern states, the National Coordinator of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Mr. Garus Gololo, has said such an action may ignite national crisis.

Gololo told one of our correspondents, “It is only in Oyo that there are up to 2,000 herdsmen; in other parts of the South-West, they are not more than between 200 and 800 while in the North, there are over 30 million southerners.”

According to him, many of the southerners have big houses in their original homes especially in Igbo land but such houses are empty because a lot of them are staying in the North.

He said the National Assembly had intervened in the crisis between farmers and herdsmen, insisting that “if the herdsmen have not committed offences that warrant their being forced out of the South, they should not be forced out.”
